JOB DESCRIPTION
DIRECTOR OF NURSING
REPORTS TO: Executive Director/Assistant Executive Director
WORK HOURS: Typically a 40 Hour Work Week, additional hours required as needed
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma and completion of approved school of nursing. Must have a current SC RN license. Acquire and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Prevention) and Defensive Driving. Subject to annual TB test. Must have a valid SC driver’s license and the ability to operate vehicle for 15 passengers or less.
JOB SUMMARY: Provided direct supervision of nursing staff and auxiliary staff members in areas related to health care. Responsible for coordination employee health, and Medication Technician Certification classes. Monitors provision of health care services for CHESCO Services consumers.

INCLUDE: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing,
walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, (patients with assistance), fingering, grasping,
feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, communication, writing, reading,
driving (including nights), counting, work double shifts as necessary, running, and smelling.
PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS
INCLUDE: Very heavy lifting with assistance, visual acuity must be accurate to write and read small print and record data. Worker is subject to both indoor and outdoor environments and maybe subject to temperature extremes of heat and cold for short time periods. The worker is subject to noise and hazards including: the possibility of physical assault, property destruction,
and infections. The worker is subject to wear protective clothing to prevent exposure to infection.
JOB DUTIES
1. Plans, organizes, evaluates, and directs the medical nursing services.
2. Provide direct supervision of nursing staff:
A. Review, approve, and submit time and travel sheets.
B. Monitor and approve leave.
C. Schedule staff to ensure coverage at all times.
D. Coordinate on-call schedule.
E. Complete annual performance evaluations for assigned staff.
3. Maintain knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations pertaining to the medical/nursing aspects of the residential programs.
4. Assess and review measures to prevent or control communicable disease and infections.
5. Participate in pre-admission and assess individuals for needed nursing services and the capability of the facility to provide the needed services.
6. Teach Medication Technician Certification classes. Ensure training and certification for all employees who are assigned to the classes.
7. Provide or coordinate employee health services to include PPD-T testing, drug screening, influenza vaccinations, and/or accident/injury assessment to determine the need for medical care.
8. Procure and assure proper storage of PPD-T and other vaccines.
9. Coordinate contractual or memorandum of agreement activities as assigned.
10. Provide nursing care and coordination in accordance with physician’s orders and medical guidelines.
11. Communicate and coordinate with physicians, consultants, pharmacists, and consumer families.
12. Participate as an active member of interdisciplinary teams that include Risk Management and CORE. Prepare required reports and assessments.
13. Coordinate services with community agencies. Serve as the primary liaison for all community health professionals and promote an effective working relationship.
14. Conduct medical record reviews to assure compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
15. Other duties as assigned or identified.
